Halloween Friends

Equipment
Glue gun and glue sticks.
White craft glue.
Coping saw. Scissors and small craft scissors.
Fine liner and medium round brushes.
Typing paper. Pencil. Permanent fine line black marker.
Ruler. Straight pins.
Compass.
Squeeze paint (optional to draw features)

[Witch] [Cat] [Ghost] [Scarecrow] [Bat] [Pumpkins along fence]

Witch Materials
  • Forster doll pin, stand, head bead and craft stick
  • Acrylic Paint: green, black, pink, white
  • Felt, two 8 1/2" x 11" black squares
  • Orange satin ribbon, 1/8" wide, 18" length
  • Miniature 5" broom; black yarn, 2 yrds. 21" length
  • Small amount of fiberfill

Instructions
  1. Glue head bead to top of doll pin. Paint head and craft stick green
  2. For cape, use compass to draw 8 1/2" circle onto black felt and cut out. Cut 1/2" circle in center of black felt circle and insert bottom of doll pin through center opening. Apply glue to felt opeining and press agianst neck, under head bead.
  3. Glue base to bottom of doll pin. Arrange folds of felt around base allowing back to flare more than front and glue to hold, making sure witch stands properly.
  4. Trace sleeve/hat pattern and cut from typing paper. Pin pattern to black felt and cut out. With each sleeve, make cone by slightly overlapping and gluing straight sides. Fold under 3/4" at points and glue at shoulders next to neck with seams to the inside.
  5. Cut craft stick in half making two arms. Insert cut ends of arms into sleeves, positioning at angles to hold broom. Glue arms in sleeves and glue broom in hands. Wrap 8" orange ribbon around broom base and tie in a bow.
  6. For hair, cut fouteen 6" lengths and glue to head in rows. Start with yarn going across top and sides and continue down back of head with ros forming upside down "U's" in center back. Cut nine 1" lenghts and glue to forehead for bangs. Untwist yarn creating scraggly hair.
  7. Pin sleeve/hat pattern to black felt and cut out. Prepare hat as you did sleeve by gluing into cone shape. Cut 2 1/4" circle from black felt and ctu 1" circle in center fro brim. Lightly stuff hat with fiberfill and glule to top of head. Slightly bend and glule hat point. Place brim over hat and glue-tack to hold. Wrap 10" ribbon around hat and tie in bow at back.
  8. Use marker or squeeze paints to draw face. Paint cheeks pink and highlights in eyes white (See Facial Feature Placement Guide)
Cat Materials
  • Forster doll pin, stand, head bead
  • Acrylic Paint: green,black, pink, white
  • Black bump chenille, 7 "bumps"
  • Felt, 1" x 2" black
  • Orange satin ribbon, 1/8" wide, 10" lenght
  • White yarn, 1 1/2" length

Instructions
  1. Cut 1" off bottom of doll pin using coping saw. Squeeze and twist bottom of doll pin into base. Glue head bead to top of doll pin and paint entire unti black.
  2. Cut bumpy chenille into three two-bump lengths (legs and paws) and one-bump length (tail). Shape leg by bending one two-bump lenght. Bend in center of one bump to make an upside down "U" for the hip. Flatten other bump and bend into a loop making the foot. Trim if necessary. Shape other leg similarly and glue to hips so that doll pin slit is in middle between legs.
  3. For paws, use another two-bump length gluing connection between bumps to back of neck. Wrap bumps around to front bending ends into loops to create paws. Trim if needed.
  4. For tail, glue last chenille bump on back with end inserted into slit in doll pin. Curl tail slightly outward.
  5. Trace ear pattern and cut from typing paper. Pin ear pattern to black felt and cut out. Apply line of glue along one side or ear and pinch in half to make rounded ear. Repeat with other ear and glue to top of head.
  6. Cut white yarn into three 1/2" lengths. Glue ends of yarn to top of head between ears. Untwist yarn to make fine hair strands.
  7. Wrap 10" orange ribbon around neck and tie in bow at front.
  8. Paint face with white and add pink and green details or use squeeze paints. (See Facial Feature Placement Guide)
Ghost Materials
  • Forster doll pin, stand, head bead
  • Acrylic Paint: black
  • Felt, two white 8 1/2" circles
  • Orange and black satin ribbon, 1/8" wide, 14"

Instructions

  1. Glue head bead to top of doll pin and paint head black.
  2. Use compass to draw two 8 1/2" circles onto white felt and cut out. Cut 1/2" circle in center of one felt circle. Insert bottom of doll pin through center of felt circle. Apply glue to felt opening and press against neck, under head bead.
  3. Glue base to bottom of doll pin. Arrange folds of felt around base allowing back to flare more than front and glue to hold, making sure ghost stands properly.
  4. Place center of other 8 1/2" felt circle on top of head bead and gather around neck, holding in one hand. Distribute folds so that face is flat but do not glue. With pencil draw three 1/4" ovals for eyes and mouth. Remove felt from head and cut out ovals using small scissors. Replace felt on head, adjust folds and tie at neck wtih black and orange ribbons. Tie bows in front. Adjust felt into rolls at side creating arms. Tack-glue to hold as desired.
Scarecrow Materials
  • Forster doll pin, stand, head bead and craft stick
  • Acrylic Paint: gold, pink, white
  • Brown burlap ribbon, 3" wide; 7" length
  • Craft ribbon: orange 1/4" x 10" and two 3/8" squares of orange, white and yellow
  • Miniature 2" straw hat

Instructions
  1. Glue head to top of doll pin. Paint doll pin/head bead unit, craft stick, and base gold.
  2. Trace suit pattern and cut from typing paper. Pin pattern to burlap ribbon and cut out. Insert bottom of doll pin through neck opening of burlap suit. Align cut in suit with slit in doll pin. Apply glue into slit in doll pin. Pinch insides of pant legs and insert into doll pin slit. Repeat process on other side of doll pin.
  3. Glue base to bottom of doll pin. Glue both side seams under arm and down sides of legs.
  4. Cut craft stick in half for arms. Insert and glue cut end of arms into sleeve so that arms extend straight out. Glue bits of straw into sleeves, neck, hem of pants, and around top and back of head.
  5. Glue hat to top of head. Wrap 1/4" x 10" length orange ribbon around hat and glue at back. Tie 9" string around waist and knot at front Fray 1/2" at ends..
  6. Cut six 3/8" squares from craft ribbon and glue three on front and three on back of suit at random. Use felt tip marker or squeeze paint to draw two stitch lines on each side of each ribbon square.
  7. use marker to draw stitch lines and facial features..

Bat Materials
  • Forster doll pin, head bead
  • Acrylic Paint: black, white
  • Black jumbo chenille, three 12" stems
  • Felt, 8 1/2" x 11" black squares
  • Orange satin ribbon: 1/8" wide x 12" long
  • Black yarn, 24" length

Instructions
  1. Glue head to top of doll pin and paint black.
  2. Trace wing pattern and cut from typing paper. Pin pattern to black felt and cut out. Repeat for other wing.
  3. Place chenille stem on top of wing pattern, starting at X on pattern, and bend stem to shape, twisting ends together. Repeat with other stem. Apply glue to wingshaped chenille stem and attach to felt wing. Repeat for other wing being sure that wing goes in opposite direction. Bend 1 1/2" and 2" lengths chenille stem and glue ribs to felt wing, inside chenille outline. Repeat for other wing.
  4. Position slot in doll pin so that it is vertical and glue edge of twisted end of wing to top side of doll pin. Repeat with other wing on other side.
  5. Trace ear pattern and cut from typing paper. Pin ear pattern to black felt and cut out. Apply line of glue along one side of ear and pinch in half to make rounded ear. Repeat with other ear and glue to top of head.
  6. Wrap 12" orange ribbon around neck and tie in bow under chin.
  7. Paint face white and draw or squeeze paint features.
  8. Wrap center of yarn around neck, 1/2" from head and tie in knot. Adjust until bat balances while hanging. (See Facial Feature Placement Guide)
Pumpkins along fence Materials
  • Three Forster head beads
  • Seven Forster craft sticks
  • Acrylic paint: orange, brown
  • Chenille stems, brown, green

Instructions

  1. GlueCut rounded ends off both ends of all seven craft sticks using scissors. Glue ends of two sticks together. Repeat process with two more sticks. Position both stick units horizontally, 1" apart on work surface. Glue three sticks in vertical position on ends and in middle. Thin brown acrylic paint with water and paint onto fence. Wipe off with paper towel as you would a stain.
  2. Paint three head beads orange. Draw faces with felt tip marker or squeeze paint so that bead opening is on bottom.
  3. Cut three 1/2" lenghts from brown chenille stem and glue on top center of each pumpkin. Cut three 1" lenghts from green chenille stem and curl in spirals. Glue next to stems.
